· Are you spending too much time in
traffic?
· Do your children attend crowded schools?
· Where are the local jobs that were promised?
Cherokee is growing at the rate of one new person every hour. Current
annual growth of 5-6% exceeds our ability to provide roads and schools,
ensure public safety, and protect the environment. The path we're on will
lead to tax increases.
FOR NEW LEADERSHIP: VOTE "BUZZ"
Growth
Growth must closely follow our Land Use Plan. This establishes
predictability and allows for the construction of roads and schools.
Residential re-zonings must stop exceeding planned density, and
rural/estate areas should maintain 2-acre lot sizes.
Jobs
We need quality jobs. We have lost large employers. We need a business
climate that encourages our existing businesses to stay and expand. To
attract clean industries and professional offices, we must market Cherokee
more aggressively.
Taxes
The residential portion of our tax digest continues to grow. The County
spends about $2 in support services for every residential property tax
dollar it collects. To improve our tax base, we must add quality
non-residential development while controlling residential growth rates.
The result is REAL BALANCED GROWTH.
Greenspace & Environmental Protection should be higher priorities.
We must protect our water quality and ensure adequate supply.
We need to expand efforts to protect historical sites. Cherokee's proud
heritage is worth saving.
